Description

‘Getting there, Camargue, France’ by Dutch fine art photographer Marie-Claire Greve.

This photograph was taken in June 2014 in the Camargue, France. In the wild horses are herd animals. Instinctively they will follow the leader and form a close formation to be safe for any predator. Of course, in the Camargue predators (but humans) are long gone. It’s so wonderful to see how an instinct is just there. As a little group they ran off. I watched the horses getting back into the water. A lovely scene as it was less ‘dirty’ with water spray and there was something harmonic to it.

About the photographer

Marie-Claire Greve (1966) is a Dutch fine art photographer. She turned to photography in 2013 in order to share the passion for nature and wildlife she had since childhood. Her visit to Hugo van Lawick, when he was recording his film ‘Cheetah Family’ in the Serengeti, Tanzania, confirmed her profound desire to be in nature. She also completely fell in love with the continent Africa. When she took her photography to a next level by studying the camera, she soon felt completely at ease using and playing with the camera to capture nature the way she experienced it.

Soon a first invitation followed to exhibit her work. She learned that she could use her photographs to tell the story she wanted to share and herewith fulfill her personal desire to commit herself through her work, to the preservation of nature. She has since worked in over 10 different countries, from France to Japan, Iceland to Africa, to create her recognisable luminescent, painterly photographs.

‘When I’m out in nature I tend to forget all about the so-called ‘rules’ of photography and love to experiment with my camera. I try to use unusual perspectives and angles, or capture motion to trick the eye. My personal preference is to work with anything that moves. Wind, water and wildlife. And to work with soft, magical light that create the pastel tones I am looking for.’

All net revenue from this photo benefit nature conservation projects and the work of Alliance for Nature.
